Typical process steps for
centrifugal compressors modernization:
- Examination and determination of new operating
conditions
- Test run of the compressor before modernization
- Analysis of the existing construction of the
compressor
- Calculation of compressor performance before
modernization
- Calculation of the expected compressor
performance after modernization
- Specification of the construction limits for the
project
- Preliminary project of
modernization.Quotation,with specification of new
components and modification of existing ones.
Qualification of mechanical and technological warranty.
- Negotiation of the final modernization contract
including material selection and choice of the impeller
manufacturing technology(e.g. welding, brazing, riveting,
casting).
- Final project of modernization and testing
calculations:
- aerodynamic
- stress resistance
- rotor dynamic
- Project execution.Supervision and inspection.
Certification of individual technological operations.
- Shipping. Assembly supervision. Start up.
Mechanical testing and vibration measurements.
- Site performance test and recalculation to the
guaranteed conditions.
- Warranty and after-market service.

Advantages of the modernization (revamp)
process:
- Low cost (40-60%), as compared with the cost of
the manufacturer's new rotor, but the same guarantee.
- Compressor capability increase (efficiency,
presure ratio, flow) due to improvement of flow path
components.
- Short period necessary for execution and
application of the project.
- In most cases, modernization process does not
interrupt production. Necessary measurements and final
assembly of the components are done during scheduled
repairs and standstills.
- Foundation and piping changes are not required.
- The possibility to apply modern control systems.
- All arrangements are made directly between
Supplier and End-user (without any third party involved)
which provides maximum satisfaction of End-user and
reduces costs.
